Jonathan is the Magazine Keeper, Delivery Driver and Safety Representative for our Kalgoorlie operations. ‘Jono’ has gone above and beyond to offer assistance to our Product Support team in a remote location and extended his stay in extreme weather conditions to get the job done.

MEET THE TEAM: Dan Kavanagh.

Dan joined JOHNEX in 2018 as our Technical Support Manager, specialising in all aspects of drill and blast. Dan’s broad expertise covers best practice, systems, policy and products for drill and blast in medium to large scale mining, construction and quarry operations. Dan’s innovative solutions and can-do attitude are a welcome addition to our Senior Management Team.

Champion of the Month – DAMIEN MAAS

Congratulation to Damien Maas for being awarded as JOHNEX’s latest Monthly Champion. Damien is one of our transport drivers at our facility in Charters Towers, QLD and has been recognised for his ‘Can Do’ attitude – one of JOHNEX’s core values. Damien was nominated for driving safety in his workplace and he even took a delivery truck home to clean it in his own time! Well done Damien!

ISEE Australian Chapter Meeting

JOHNEX were pleased to be a part of the International Society of Explosives Engineers’ first meeting of the Australian Chapter for 2019. JOHNEX’s Dan Kavanagh and Shaun Mulvaney delivered a presentation that addressed the principles and techniques for effective perimeter and wall control in both surface and underground mining. It was an informative and enjoyable evening spent networking with industry professionals in the blasting fraternity.

Welcome to the team - Donna Jackson-Thomas

Donna joined JOHNEX in February 2019 as our new HR Advisor. Originally from London in the UK, she has called Australia home for the past seven years. Donna was the lead singer in a band for 15 years and is a rugby fan who will cheer for both Australia and England. Donna is a life-long learner and has recently started to learn Ballroom and Latin dancing.

Farewell to Tracey

It was a farewell of mixed emotions when we said goodbye to one of JOHNEX's stalwarts, Tracey Aikman. After 19 years and 1 day, whilst very sad to see our Admin Manager leave JOHNEX, we celebrated in her decision to broaden her horizons.

Congratulations to Michelle Kopae, winner of the 2016 annual RJ (Dick) Johnson award. The RJ (Dick) Johnson Award is presented each year to the JOHNEX employee who best exemplifies the JOHNEX core values of Professionalism, Innovation, a Can Do attitude and Trustworthiness. Michelle was a clear winner in 2016, with a record 10 nominations and two Monthly Champion awards across a number of different departments at JOHNEX. Michelle applies herself diligently to every task, is always happy to assist and is actively helping to improve JOHNEX's internal processes. A worthy winner, Michelle works in JOHNEX's head office.

JOHNEX explosives successfully achieved ISO accreditations at all Australian Manufacturing Facilities and Perth Head Office. The accreditations include Quality Management ISO 9001, Occupational Health and Safety Management ISO 18001 and Environmental Management ISO 14001.

In their quest for a better product, JOHNEX explosives are announcing the launch of their MEGADRIVE® packaged explosive range. The formulation has been beefed up to cope with the strict demands of the mainly underground customers’ requirements and to an area of the market that is being neglected.

JOHNEX launch surface bulk emulsion - EZIPUMP®-ANE (Class 5.1)

Over the last 3 years JOHNEX explosives have been progressively researching the best emulsion formulation for the harsh Australian mining environment. In the last 3 months we have had several successful blasts using the same formulation of EZIPUMP®-ANE and our own, home engineered, emulsion delivery unit. At the end of May 2012 we were awarded the authority to blast in NSW and Queensland and already have orders for 3 more trucks.
